Stampede Reservoir - Lake Tahoe Fishing

Located approximately 15 miles north of Truckee at 5,949 feet elevation, Stampede Reservoir has a surface area of 3,450 acres and 25 miles of sage and coniferous shoreline.  All boating is permitted but note that water levels drop dramatically toward the end of summer which limits launching to extended low water launch ramps.  Stampede holds a large number of trophy class rainbow and brown trout and the fisherman is commonly well rewarded.  Shore fishing nets browns and rainbows.  Use inflated nightcrawlers, power bait or salmon eggs.  If trolling, Kokanee is the catch.  Use flasher/wedding rings and white corn combinations.  If fly fishing use wooly buggers, nymphs, and midges near the inlet streams.  For more information call Truckee Ranger District (530) 478-6257.

Driving directions from TahoeTarns at Zephyr Cove: Take the 1st RIGHT onto US-50 E. go 8.9 mi Turn LEFT onto NV-28 (Crossing into CALIFORNIA).  NV-28 is 0.3 miles past GENOA PEAK RD go 16.2 mi NV-28 becomes CA-28 / N LAKE BLVD. go 1.7 mi Turn RIGHT onto N SHORE BLVD / CA-267. Continue to follow CA-267.  CA-267 is just past SECLINE ST. go 11.6 mi Merge onto I-80 E toward RENO.  If you are on CA-89 and reach CA-89 S you've gone about 0.3 miles too far. go 5.5 mi Take the HIRSCHDALE RD exit, EXIT 194. go 0.4 mi Turn LEFT onto HIRSCHDALE RD. go 0.2 mi HIRSCHDALE RD becomes CR-894 / STAMPEDE MEADOWS RD (Portions may be closed seasonally).  Road closed seasonally: Oct 1 to Apr 30. go 5.5 mi CR-894 / STAMPEDE MEADOWS RD becomes STAMPEDE DAM RD (Portions may be closed seasonally). go 1.7 mi Your destination is 0.1 miles past DOG VALLEY RD.
